| Female Giraffes isolate themselves both before and after giving birth. The calf remains hidden for approximately a month while the mother ventures out to feed and returns to nurse several times a day. The young are then hidden in groups called "nursery herds", tended to by one cow while the remaining animals feed. | ||||||||||
