| The Giraffe is able to browse among the thorns of the Acacia tree without harm. This is accomplished by its long, supple and muscular tongue which is adept at selecting and gathering foliage. It also has a prehensile upper lip, as do many browsers. The lip is covered with thick hair to protect it against the thorns. Nostrils close at will which allows added protection from thorns as well as from dust. | ||||||||||
