| The male Gorilla emigrates at about 11 years. He cannot just transfer to another group like the females. If allowed by the silverback, a young male will first become peripheral to his group within a 300 meter radius. He will become solitary after about 9 months. He will not be mature enough to start his own group until around 15 years of age. He must first establish a home range and must then become strong enough to discourage infringement from other solitary males. | ||||||||||
