			Jackals are more edifying than their scavenger reputation. They are less dependent on carrion than is commonly believed. Their family life is noted for its stability including unusually stable partnerships between male and female. One couple in a Serengeti study stayed together for 8 years. The female then disappeared from their territory after the male was killed.
