"Safety in Numbers!"
Interrupting Dinner!!
The White-bearded Wildebeests (Connochaetes taurinus) are the most numerous animal on the Serengeti Plains; 1.5 million of them. They are the bedrock of the entire ecosystem of all plains and acacia savannahs of East Africa. They prefer short carpets of grass. They can replace species unable to survive in overgrazed areas. In fact, as long as the grass grows, they can create the kind of habitat they prefer. When the dry season arrives, however, they must migrate from the now waterless, arid savannahs. They must drink daily.
