"Water and Dust!"
Young Wildebeest in Ngorogoro Crater
In resident populations like the Ngorongoro Crater, wildebeest herds tend to be dispersed and sedentary. A small cow herd can often spend about 90% of their time within a small area. These herds are stable and strictly territorial. On the great plains of the Serengeti, however, herds are numerous and packed together so that more interchange occurs.
