| Sows leave their families to farrow in a burrow lined with grass. She usually gives birth to 2-3 piglets. They are precocial, able to function without assistance. They are, however, sensitive to temperature changes. The mother leaves them during the day but returns 3 or 4 times for nursing. They come out into the open at about 2 weeks but stay near the burrow. They are able to eat grass almost immediately. The young forages with other families at about 6-8 weeks, but remain in close contact with the mother for a while. | ||||||||||
