"Are We There Yet? Are We There Yet?"
Burchell's Zebras live in stable year-round harems that consist of several females and their young. The dominant male fiercely defends his females against interlopers. When mature, both males and females leave their natal group. Females are enticed away to join another established herd or a new one. Unrelated females develop close bonds and stay in the same group the rest of their lives.
