SHADOW AND LIGHT

The beauty of life!!

Black-necked swans are always in the water and are constantly grooming themselves to insulate and waterproof their feathers. To this end, they have a well developed oil gland, called the uropygial gland. This is a gland at the base of the tail that is used in waterproofing. They also have a salt gland above the eyes to aid in dispelling excess salt from their bodies.
