IT'S GREAT TO BE YOUNG

I'm making quit a splash!!

The young black-necked swans are called "cygnets". They are born precocial. This means that they are capable of a certain amount of activity immediately after hatching. They have this grayish-white down for only about three months, but it takes three or four years until adult coloration. They are often seen climbing out of the water onto their parents' backs for warmth or when they get a little tired swimming.
